On Saturday, I completed my first triathlon! It was a sprint distance race. I’ve been training for it for a while and I had a blast (despite it raining and being unseasonably cold)! I’ve already got another sprint on my calendar, and I’m beginning a training plan to do an Olympic distance tri in September.
Elizabeth went with me and cheered me on. She also got some great pictures from the event. Above you can see me preparing for the swim, coming into transition from the bike portion, crossing the finish line, celebrating with Elizabeth, and posing with my medal once I was warm and dry in the car.
Also, in driving to Jacksonville for this race, I can now say that I have driven every mile of Interstate 10, ocean to ocean!
GPOYW: A few weekends ago I ran in a 5K that benefitted the Girl Scouts. You got a box of cookies for running the race. It was a good race, and I set a new PR! I’d probably run every race faster if there were somoas waiting for me at the end. Also, Elizabeth’s friend snapped this picture of me as I was approaching the finish line. It’s the best picture anyone’s taken of me running.
In related news, I’m training to do my first triathlon in May (Star Wars Day at that) . It’s a sprint distance designed for first timers. I’m excited!
Crazy Christmas Spectacular!
I’m a sinister elf with a sinister plan.
Exciting news, y’all! On Wednesday, December 26, 2012, under the Christmas lights downtown, I asked Elizabeth to be my wife. We’re getting married this summer!
I’m still here, folks! Sorry for the lack of updates in recent weeks. Life and work have been extremely busy lately. Busy, but fun. Sorry for being so vague, but I just wanted to let everyone know I’m alive.
This picture is from last night. I finally got home around 11:00. For the past week, I’ve been spending every free moment working on getting some things ready for Christmas (especially since Elizabeth and I are celebrating early-tonight-before she heads north for a while to spend Christmas with family). I finally finished getting all I needed to celebrate with her squared away just before midnight. Here’s to dinner, songs, A Muppet Family Christmas and general merry-making.
I hope everyone is having a great holiday season as we gear up for the big Christmas blowouts. I’ve got 3 more days of work (only 2 with students) before I am off until January 7. You may have noticed that I’ve already quietly begun this year’s Crazy Christmas Spectacular. Stick around because once I’m finished with work I will actually have some free time to celebrate the season (and the Doctor Who Christmas Special with new companion!) with all my tumblr friends!
GPOYW: Happy Halloween everybody!
This mug got left at my house, and I couldn’t resist using it. Crazy Cat Lady.
GPOYW: Featuring my freshly trimmed beard.
My beard will be returning to its standard, much trimmer self soon.
I think I should start wearing my beard fluffed out like this. You know, to get the full crazed hobo look.
