Smaug, the Cake
That’s a cake?
That’s a cake?
That’s a cake.
That’s a c a k e ? !
There are also corn dogs and mozzarella sticks. This actually IS the party.
This has been around the internets for at least 7 years if I recall correctly. I remember seeing it when I was still in college (maybe it was grad school but that’s already been about 5 years now). Anyway, it’s a really cool D&D inspired cake from a themes birthday party. There are more pictures somewhere. The spread was amazing. Corn dogs, taters tots, and such complete with fondue fountains of ketchup and mustard (which you can glimpse in the background here). I have long said I wanted to steal that idea for a party sometime. I’m glad to have come across the pictures again (thanks, Jenny). I do have a big birthday this year…

Crazy Christmas Spectacular!
I fell asleep watching The Pee-Wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special last night. My favorite part is when Charo and a dancing robot sing “Feliz Navidad.”

How my brother, a fifth grade teacher addressed his class this morning regarding the events at Sandy Hook Elementary School last Friday. Couldn’t have been more fitting. Damn proud of him.
I went to see The Hobbit Friday afternoon immediately after leaving work. For those who don’t know, I teach elementary school. I read about what had happened during lunch, but I didn’t know all the details yet. As I locked my classroom and made my way to the theater to meet my girlfriend, I still hadn’t discussed the events with anyone. My mind was racing as I thought about my students, my school, and my actions if I was ever in that unimaginable situation. I was ready to get lost in Middle Earth that day for more reasons than one. When Gandalf said this, I smiled and thought to myself, “Yes.”
That’s the reason I get up and go do what I do everyday. To keep the darkness at bay.

The October Surprise turned out to be Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm and the revelation of Star Wars Episode VII. I want to hear the presidential candidates’ take on this and their ideas for future Star Wars sequels. And go!
My vote and the votes of
millionsdozens of undecided voters rests on the answer to these questions.Posted on October 30, 2012 with 2 notes ()

For the first time ever, I don’t feel so yucky about future daughters of mine admiring Disney princesses.

A big bowl of Count Chocula and a cup of coffee with Pumpkin Spice creamer while catching on a week’s worth of TV. Hello October Saturdays!
After being rudely awoken by a phone call this morning (seriously, who calls someone at 10:00 on a Saturday morning?), I got up and went to the post office for the first time all week while my coffee was brewing. My box was overflowing with crap and several goodies including more coffee beans, the new Entertainment Weekly with the Arrested Development reunion, and Joe Dante’s The Hole. At long last! This movie has been released in the U.S. after a 4 year delay. Very excited to watch this with Elizabeth tonight. I love Dante’s stuff.
