Blessed Are The Geek

Pop culture musings from a twentysomething geek.

Hi, I'm Brandon. I have 28 years of geek experience. Yes, I wear bowties. Bowties are cool. I consider myself a pretty well-rounded geek but my areas of specialty include comics, Superman, Star Wars, movies, Tolkien, The Simpsons, comedy, and more. Apologies in advance.

  • Crazy Christmas Spectacular! I participated in two online Secret Santas from different online communities I’ve been a part of for years. This is my third year doing one of them, and my first year doing the other. It’s really fun getting gifts from people you talk to online. The first Secret Santa gave me the first volume in Fantagraphics’ new Complete Carl Barks collection. I’ve been really excited for this book since it was announced and what I’ve read so far does not disappoint. He also gave me Muppets From Space which was one of the two Muppets movies I didn’t own. My other online Secret Santa fulfilled a childhood wish of wanting a stuffed Fozzie Bear. Fozzie is my favorite Muppet.

  • Mid-Year Check-Up of Most Anticipated Entertainments of 2011

There’s always something on the pop culture landscape to look forward to and that

So early in the year, I posted this list of my most anticipated entertainments of the year. Since we are now over halfway through 2011, I thought I’d look back on the list. A lot of these items have been released and I thought I’d share a brief rundown on my feelings about them.

Super 8, Smallville, Scream 4, Doctor Who? What did I think about all these and more? Find out after the jump.

  • Exclusive: Fantagraphics to publish the complete Carl Barks | Robot 6 @ Comic Book Resources – Covering Comic Book News and Entertainment

This is HUGE news that I can’t believe I missed last week.  Ever since my former comic book guy, Ron, introduced me to Uncle Scrooge comics a few years ago, I’ve been wanting to read the legendary Barks but his stuff is hard to come by in the U.S.  That will soon change.  I’m also thrilled that it’s coming from Fantagraphics, the publishers behind the great Complete Peanuts reprints.
