Blessed Are The Geek

Pop culture musings from a twentysomething geek.

Hi, I'm Brandon. I have 28 years of geek experience. Yes, I wear bowties. Bowties are cool. I consider myself a pretty well-rounded geek but my areas of specialty include comics, Superman, Star Wars, movies, Tolkien, The Simpsons, comedy, and more. Apologies in advance.

β€œIt appears as though Walmart is running a contest where the store with the most Facebook likes will get a live performance from Miami-based rapper Pitbull. Someone has started a campaign to get the Walmart in Kodiak, Alaska, the most likes so Pitbull has to go play…

This is why Al Gore created the internet. I only recently found out what “Pitbull” was. Oh, ignorance, I miss you. Go like that page, people.

  • Today was the last day of summer school for the students. Our theme has been Alaska. To celebrate the end of school, the kids got to watch a movie today. I went to my parents’ house and dug out this gem from my little sister’s old VHS collection. I remembered Thora Birch was in it (she was kind of a big deal among child actors in 1996) as well as Charlton Heston and Dirk Benedict. I didn’t realize, however, until Jami Lyn pointed it out the other night, that the main kid in the movie is Vincent Kartheiser, from Mad Men and Angel. Watching the movie with the kids today, I couldn’t quit thinking that this kid (who’s not particularly good in the movie) grew up to play one of the best characters on TV (who I want to punch in the face). If you’ve never seen the movie, Connor and Empress Savina set out to rescue their father, Starbuck, and along the way save a baby polar bear from Ben-Hur.
